meme yanked from [livejournal.com profile] palantiri

Scan my interest list and pick out the one that seems the oddest (or most intriguing) to you.

-I'll explain it.

-Then you post this in your journal so other people can ask you about your interests.

e.e. cummings

I do know who Edward Estlin Cummings is and I can understand why his poetry is appealing. In lieu of an explanation please post your favorite poem, or at least one you enjoy greatly, and explain your interest in it.

I like "since feeling is first" especially. Also he is a fabulous artist (http://www.eecummingsart.com/).

Well, first of all, its E. E. Cummings, but LJ interests are forced lower-case.

I like his sexual poems, like "she being brand" and "i like my body when it is with your".

Even outside of his "sex poems", his lyrical patterns are astounding ("Adult nursery rhymes" one of my Cummings collections calls them). And his romance poems are super sweet. See below.

if everything happens that can't be done
(and anything's righter
than books
could plan)
the stupidest teacher will almost guess
(with a run
skip
around we go yes)
there's nothing as something as one

one hasn't a why or because or although
(and buds know better
than books
don't grow)
one's anything old being everything new
(with a what
which
around we go who)
one's everyanything so

so world is a leaf is a tree is a bough
(and birds sing sweeter
than books
tell how)
so here is away and so your is a my
(with a down
up
around again fly)
forever was never till now

now i love you and you love me
(and books are shutter
than books
can be)
and deep in the high that does nothing but fall
(with a shout
each
around we go all)
there's somebody calling who's we

we're everything brighter than even the sun
(we're everything greater
than books
might mean)
we're everyanything more than believe
(with a spin
leap
alive we're alive)
we're wonderful one times one

The lower-case thing works, since e.e. cummings like to write in lower-case.

But his name is E. E. Cummings.

That's how he signed his poems, letters, and checks. He wrote to his mother, "I am a little-i poet."

1000 Blank White Cards is a Discordian game. It involves having a deck of blank white cards, pens for each player, and some time. There are no rules, save what gets put on cards as they are played.

Here is a set of rules (http://www.geocities.com/nconner23/bwcards.html), but you can largely think of them as guidelines.

"Poit"...

... along with, "zort", "troz", and "egad" are the classic catch phrases of Pinky from the Warner Bros. animated shorts (played during Animaniacs) and full-length episodes, "Pinky and the Brain."

The fact that you didn't know this makes me wonder what rock you lived under as a child.

I wasn't sure if this is what you meant or not. hence, the asking.

What, no "Narf!"?

And I'll bite - what exactly is a "brain fuck", since (I'm assuming) it must be a distinctly different from 'mindfuck', especially since, well, who even in all irony is about mindfuck?

"Brainfuck" is a small and scary programming language.

And brainfucks are much like mindfucks

Yes, brainfuck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainfuck) is small and scary, and I seriously hope that you do not actually know how to write code in it... why is this an *interest* exactly? I mean, have you taken up writing quines (http://www.e-paranoids.com/q/qu/quine.html#Sample%20quine%20in%20Brainfuck) in brainfuck or something?

Re: "Poit"...

[identity profile] xoder.livejournal.com 2005-01-27 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I want to learn it. So its an interest. ::shrug::

Well, don't say I didn't warn you if you find your brains oozing out your ears when you do get around to trying to learn it...
