Because it's significantly higher than every statistic I've ever heard, even the ones from the 'our children are all becoming druggies' scaremongers.

Probably some study from the 60s ;-)

And in retrospect, the figure sounds incredibly fake. Probably generated by someone who hadn't tried due to fear and wanted to make themselves feel better by spreading a meme across LJ.

Doesn't change the fact that the wacky-tobaccy hasn't been intentionally smoked by yours truely (I take no responsibility for others actions at concerts, in subways, and the like)

Actually that's one that's been around for years and years... My dad's used that one I've read it on taglines that date back to arpanet, etc.

Also another great reason that the statistic is fake... there are at least areas of the world where 13 year olds cannot get marijuana. Maybe heroin is the only drug available. (The reason I use thirteen year olds is that they would [logically] have a lower percentage of marijuana users than say 17 year olds (more time to try it)... but this is like beating a dead horse.)
