Actually, there's some findings that N-9 can increase the rate of spread of HIV (and other STDs) in case of breakage. N-9 is a detergent, and therefore dissolves lipids. It makes microtears in many human membranes which may even go unnoticed by the users of the condom. (For TMI, I don't like them because it does irritate, although only slightly). Also, N-9 may adversely affect the structural integrety of the condom.
Most health professionals now state that it's probably a better idea to use non-N-9 condoms for anal sex, and are mixed on vaginal.
