That sucks...one of my friends had similar problems with ME, I wish I knew what he did to fix it (for all I know, he reformatted to 98 too). :)
XP is great, I think. Some aesthetic parts of it are kind of stupid (for instance, icons as big as your head), but as a whole, it's very stable, and I haven't had any problems using it online either on our network or on dialup (it's a laptop, so when I'm at home, it's hooked up to the network, but elsewhere I use dialup, blah, blah)...
Hope this didn't annoy you or anything, just thought that might help your decision if you were thinking of buying XP. :\
