He is right to some extent, though he overlooks other factors such as his horrific life in the muggle world, and the fact that while he has been chosen and singled out for greatness, he's not the least bit happy with most of it... and, at the end of the fourth book, his life is anything but happy. As for all the help he's given, that's good writing - in too many fantasy novels the heroes are sent of to fight the ultimate evil with barely any more help then a cursory "good luck".
