[livejournal.com profile] erin_trying and I are going to Toronto, Canada from July 7 to July 12. You guys have any touristy suggestions? We like architecture, museums, tasty food, and pretty things. Obviously free/low-cost is better than not, but suggestions are suggestions. I'll be picking up the DK guidebook (my favorite brand, thanks Eyewitness Books from my childhood corrupting me to this very day) today or tomorrow for more ideas, but personal ones are best, of course. We'll be staying in Harbourfront, but the subways and Zipcars can take us anywhere, so long as it's not too far afield.

I really like the ornate facade on this building. It's on Montague St. in Brooklyn. I was lucky enough to catch the morning sun on the day I got my first ZipCar.

Today is Wednesday, the day of the week I don't make plans on. Therefore, I stand a chance of getting the a/c out of the window, as well as doing some ironing. I hope I can get to both of these. Maybe do some laundry? Boring, I know, but when I'm busy all weekend, it's hard to get the vital stuff done. The good news is that laundry is highly parallelizable.

I think I may have started posting too often. Sorry. And sorry about apologising so often. Last night, Erin and I went to Fairway, and on the way back I began to crash hard. Maybe it was that I was tired, maybe I was tired of the messed up schedule at work, who knows. I do know that I became a liability and an annoyance at that point. I could argue that I always am, but I know that's not true, so I can kill that loop pretty quickly.

When the MTA paints over your tag, the correct solution is to complain about their choice of paint.

My TKD teacher, Howard will be giving a free Self-Defense Workshop this upcoming Thursday at 7:30p at his studio in Brooklyn. I wish I could go myself, but I'll be working 2nd shift.

I've decided that I much prefer mass transit to driving. I still like to drive, in general, but for commuting I find taking the train to be very superior. Next week, I will try to minimize the number of trips taken by car, which will likely include leaving the car at work one night. This will reduce the amount of time spent parking (which is substantial in Carroll Gardens around midnight) while allowing me to get to Howard's noontime classes on Tuesday and Thursday.

This is a nice long tag. I forget what it says, but hopefully I'll be able to read it when I get home tonight (work blocks LJ's photo service, but nothing else from there).

Tomorrow my (privacy-aware) friend D. from RIT is coming to visit NYC for a few hours between his bus and his plane. Aside from offering him my shower, since he was just on an overnight bus ride, what do you suggest I show a quiet geekish guy from Texas who is only staying for like 9 hours and will need to get to LGA?

Also this weekend Erin may be heading to Saloncon, but not as a steampunker. I hope she can make it, as I think she'll have an awesome time. If she can't, I guess we'll try to have one :-)

I think my post yesterday got eaten. If that's so, I'll try to repost it at lunch today.

Time to go back to 'Salt: A World History'.

Time Budget (approx.)

Sleeping: 49 hrs/wk (generous)
Commuting: 17.5 hrs/wk (conservative)
Working: 48 hrs/wk
Lunch break @ work: 6 hrs/wk
TKD: 6 hrs/wk
School: 5 hrs/wk
Total accounted hours used per week: 131.5

For reference, there are 168 hours in a week. Therefore, I have 36.5 unaccounted hours—a little over 5 per day (although most of those hours are on Saturday and Sunday, where my only time constraints are TKD and work, respectively [and, of course commuting])—perhaps [livejournal.com profile] shoujo_mallet has something when she worries about my work/life balance.

Saturday morning will be the last time I am able to receive email or phone calls reliably until next Saturday, the 25th. I'm going to Tae Kwon Do in the Mountains this week, so I'll not be able to get email at all, and only check voicemail/texts sporadically.

Have a great week, all!
