– I will try to create my own meme.
What is the stupidest/most-embarassing belief you ever had? How long did you have it? When and how did you disavow yourself of it?

From the point that I really understood what sex was, in terms of what was done, and why (usually), or in other words, since I was about 12-sh (I actually don't know how old I was. I remember learning in 2nd grade (7 y.o.) that babies were made by putting a penis in a vagina, but I thought it was a push-button process.), I thought that only guys enjoyed sex. I thought that women used it as a sort of reward for good behavior, but found it anywhere from somewhat to extremely uncomfortable. I heard — and at that point deeply believed — the famous feminazist quote, "All sex is rape." I also believed that some women used it to get at money (I can blame the telly on this one, right?), or simply companionship. This belief lasted into high school, and for all I know, there may still be some vestiges of it lurking in my subconsious. However, I know so many sex-positive women now that it would be plain foolishness to really believe it any more.

Not to mention, actually having sex helped me to understand the whole thing a bit more.

Embarassment is supposed to fade when you tell everyone about it... right? Lets find out if its true; put this question in your LJ, and tell all your friends what stupid thing the younger you believed.

When I was seven, I watched the news a lot, and I kept hearing about people being held at gunpoint in petty robberies. So, until I was about nine, I thought Gun Point was a real place and it was just a really, really bad neighborhood. I was finally relieved of this illusion when I asked some adult type (my fourth grade teacher Mrs. Ground, if I recall) why anyone would live in gunpoint if it was where all the robberies happened. I do not believe I have ever quite lived that down.

I refuse, on principle, to put this in my LJ until I finish my Tales of the Old Country, but I'm at least responding here.

'Tis okay — as long as you are working on Tales of the Old Country.
