ricewrites is right, you're not an asshole, but it sure can be tough not to sound that way when the other person doesn't want to hear what you need to say.
and I agree with codepoet, sometimes it really is best to help show people where mistakes are by helping them step around them. unfortunately, you can't always do that :(
so, I'd say, try to help a brotha' out, but be careful about your tone of voice and choice of words.
