· Zipcars — After riding with [livejournal.com profile] amalthya in her Zipcars, I realized how very useful they were. In fact, it was part of my push to get my license. The other part was the Summer trips to the Mountains and helping out Howard. I've loved Zipcar thus far. The customer service has been spectacular, and it's very inexpensive. I also love the spectacular array of vehicles. It's nice to always have a new car to try out.

· Tae Kwon Do — I've been doing TKD since I was 11 with my teacher, Howard. It's always been extremely positive. My brothers started with me, but bailed in their late teens. Both are 2DAN. I have a 3DAN.

· Polyamory — I've been poly since before my first relationship. When reading Stranger in a Strange Land at summer camp (was I 12 or 13?), I was astounded by two things: how much sex there was in it, and how much nonmonogamy made complete and utter sense. To the other polyfolk in the crowd, they can sigh and say how stereotypical that it was Heinlein that got me thinking poly, but whatever.

· Engineering — I love building things. My parents have a ton of LEGO toys and K'Nex in the basement waiting for my brothers and I to have children. Computers and electronics came easily to me, so it made sense to go into engineering. I enjoy my job when I'm not being thwarted at every turn by poor documentation.

· NYC — My first true love, the city I grew up in. I don't need to own a car, and I don't want to. The subway is like my native language. 9/11 happened on my second day of classes up at RIT, and I wanted to be downtown helping heal my city's wounds. Now, of course, I'm annoyed at the survivor's families, and I'm horrified at the rate of pulmonary diseases that first responders are getting and how little they're being helped by the powers that be. But I want to be clear: I loved NYC before, and I love it after, and neither have anything to do with that day after my 18th birthday.

I didn't know you were poly before you met me. I don't recall you ever mentioning it to me before I went away to college.

I had poly leanings. Remember I told you that you could do anything you wanted with ladies when we were dating? Of course, when you went to college we went more completely poly.

It's true that I didn't bring it up or make it an issue earlier in HS. There must have been a reason, most likely it wasn't bothering me much at the time.

Cool. Thanks for the answers. :) Very interesting to know how you came into being poly, and the NYC bit was interesting. How come you are annoyed at survivor's families? I also find it interesting that you seem to feel like you have to defend your love of the city from having anything to do with 9/11. You're from there, you just love it because it's yours, yes? :)

The survivors families are being obstructionist when it comes to rebuilding Lower Manhattan. No amount of money or reverence is enough for them, and they seem to have infinite supplies of sympathy to draw upon ["But my loved one(s) are dead!!"].

But on the other hand, no one I knew died at the WTC or Pentagon. Although my mom had to flee her office in Lower Manhattan and saw the towers fall from the Brooklyn Bridge.

Subway is a native language...as in reading the people there or just knowing where you're going?

Having an intuitive understanding. Like knowing that the G train never enters Manhattan but has intersections with most of the Queens lines [E, F, V, N/R], as well as some weird lines like the J/M/Z and L. Knowing which trains and in what directions will get you to airports, major destinations, and home. Having a clear idea of east side trains vs. west side trains and where the closest crosstown option is (and whether it's better than walking).

Ah, I understand now...that implicit, "How do you know the train isn't going to come here now?" "Because I just know..."

Sure, I'm memable
