· 2006 Toyota Matrix — Small in every way except for the cargo space. Slightly better acceleration than the xB, but only just. Handling is nothing special. The engine seemed particularly loud, but I can't say how much that was due to possible poor maintenance or design.

Just because an engine is louder doesn't necessarily mean it's more powerful. In "sporty" cars the manufacturer will sometimes reduce the soundproofing just so the car sounds sporty.

It does rack up an extra 50hp on the XRS model (2zz engine vs. the 1zz on the XR or base mdoels), so it is slightly more powerful.
