Happy New Year to those of you on that Lunar calendar.

Saw the hearing lady today. Had to stop one run short because I was so tired. Just couldn't fall asleep last night. Didn't help that I had to get up at 5:30 because of distro and the hearing appointment.

I love screen because it allows me to spend the next few hours downloading some MSI videos.

Speaking of which:

yo yo - yo yo - when you out gay-bashing
i'm gonna be at your house fucking your girlfriend
in the ass"

Anyways. I'm fucking tired, but I have some more things to do today, so there. I've still got class (in 18 minutes nonetheless). And I still have to go talk to the Anime Club publicist. ("Go talk to" sounds better than "Schmooze with ulterior motives", although that raises the question: Is GDT an ulterior motive?) They are showing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, so I might just stay for the opener ;-). There might be a gathering tonight at MacGregor's (yay for being 21) with [livejournal.com profile] ellf, [livejournal.com profile] faboo, etc.

I have also started a fundraiser in motion. I've asked the SLC for the space, and then when they confirm (because they had better!) I can forward the event to the event management people, so I can sign the scary paper of responsibility. I remember last year some people were quite surprised that we actually filled out the paperwork. I fill it out because I don't want to give the administration the slightest reason to keep us from raising money ourselves, since they won't give it to us (for the services we provide to the communty).

I still have the feeling that GDT is in some dire straits right now because the staff is getting older and is not getting replaced. And, once I recognize this, I can't help but feel that I'm partly responsible. Either not reaching out far enough to the youngins, or not holding the magazine to proper standards, I feel like I'm not doing a very good job as Editor. Of course, the real problem with this is that I'm certain there's no one in the ranks right now who could do better right now, which is part of the reason for my diagnosis.

And even though I'm pretty sure he doesn't read this: In case I forget tomorrow, Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] hephaestos!

Okay, I'm done.

Thanks to my normal hearing in both ears, I'm a member of the control group for several hearing and speech experiments that take place at the International Center for Hearing and Speech Research under the Ellingson Circle.

They stick things in my ears, I push buttons – all in a soundproof room of niftyness.

You're a good editor, GDT's just been having some problems (namely, losing good staff and not replacing them). It's hard to uphold standards very effectively when there aren't enough contributors to pick and choose articles, and you can't strongarm new people into showing up. But for all the trouble, I wouldn't say that GDT is so much sinking as simply run aground and stuck... and I hold myself more than partly responsible for not generating the momentum to carry us clear. However, I think that the power of negative thinking is definitely part of the problem, so don't beat yourself up or fret too much - it's not going to help you and it's not going to help the magazine...
