Watching a telethon on channel 4. A talking head said that the number of people in New Orleans needing shelter since Katrina hit has tripled. Isn't this indicative of a tremendous homeless problem in the region, since the destruction is so total?

Being homeless is usually defined as the condition of being without a shelter and with no reasonable way of obtaining one. Being put out by a disaster *SUCKS*, but these people likely had insurance and/or resources, and will be able to recover.

True, but there also are likely some people caught in this madness, even those who may have had living spaces before, may not have insurance or other resources and thus may not be able to recover.
