Google for "where's the crime?" "hackers on planet earth" for some amusing anecdotes about my father drinking too much while covering HOPE for Wired. I believe the phrase ended up as the title of his article as well.
Perhaps my arm could be twisted. Seems like it'd be cool. I'll see if George wants to go...I am on the fence b/c I am trying my absolute hardest to be a cheapskate (and it seems odds are against me) and save money to pay off my car (new car, woohoo!!), and student loans.....wait... registering for that might raise red flags in the gov't...hmm...
Do you really think that these people would give up their db to Uncle Sam? Anyways, I know of many people in government positions who are subscribers to 2600 and enjoy no repercussions from it.
Eh. HOPE2k sucked -- it was full of boring technical lectures, paranoid "OMG FUX0R TEH GUVMENT!!!" types, and child molestors.
I still can't decide if the highlight of that con was someone throwing dynamite off of the roof of the Hotel PA, the "orgy" that cost $20 to get into, and ended up with only 4 people attending, or Cap'n Crunch trying to get underage boys to go to his room for "deep massage" sessions.
