So when I go to the following link, I see the following:


In fact, all PNGs are fucked up. I've re-emerged libpng, restarted X, and screamed at my computer.

WTF do I do now?

Does Firefox use the standard library or its own? Have you looked at the same stuff in other browsers (eg, Konq probably would use the library, but Opera probably rolls its own)? Perhaps try a Firefox install direct from Mozilla.org and not from the Gentoo repositories?

...you've probably considered all this, though. As well as changing bit depths of your X display, just to get obscure issues (like, for instance, 32 bit depth taking up too much video memory in certain png-related cases) out of the way.

Worst case scenario, stop using x, run elinks and somehow configure it to externally pipe images to fbi. :)

Firefox uses the standard library. Weird shit is also happening in k3b, audacious, and any other program that views PNGs (i.e. the GIMP, which I was careful to use only for JPEG in taking this shot).
