I was talking with faerykat and I realized that I've never really been ogled. I mean, there was one time I was at Vertex, and this very drunk 40+ lady (at the time, twice my age) called out, "Hey tall stuff!" very thickly, but I don't think that counts. What is it like? Is it always negative? How do you know? Do you have a notable ogling story (as either the oglee or the ogler)?

I remember there was this boy that came to visit me from germany and all I could think of was this other guy.

I thought he was so serious and goofy at the same time
and I liked the serious look on his face when he did his martial arts stuff and talked about computers.

What's the difference between an ogling and just checking someone out? And those and flirtatious eye contact? I'm always thinking people are flirting with me.

When I went to college after growing up in NYC I always thought people were flirting with me b/c I was used to how in NY no one ever makes eye contact.

I tend to be oggled by older guys at cons. I notice that I am oggled by them after they hit on me. Which is okay as they are very good at taking "No thank you, I don't fuck people over 35 but I love to flirt with anyone especially if they are doing their PhD in something interesting.". I oggle people a lot. I try really, really hard to make it so they don't notice unless I am at a con or some other space where the interaction rules between people are a little looser and the sleaze enforcement is a little higher. I also tend to oggle women a lot and I have a breasts/hips thing and I figure women have enough guys looking at their breasts and not being discreet about it I should at least be polite and try to look at their eyes. Also, because I assume they are straight and thus not interested in me. (I have a pattern of falling for straight women. And I figure, better to be friends than them thinking I am a sleaze. I even have on straight friend who I flirt with. It is cute.) I don't really oggle men as much. Unless they are tall, scrawny things with lots of hair. And I try to be discreet about that large public places because they usually seem to be taken.

I think I was in college at the time, and few friends and I were walking in Battery Park on a break and a guy wolf-whistled and called something about a hot ass. Both me and one of my friends thought it was ourselves (he wasn't very specific on which ass he liked), and neither of us were very happy with it. The guy was probably in his mid-thirties, and looked nearly homeless. Maybe if he'd been hot we wouldn't've minded.

FWIW, just about every guy I knew growing up in NYC had gotten mugged, and just about every girl I knew had a creep sit next to her on the subway and shove his hands in his pants. That's not ogling though, that really wasn't about *us* per se, but was more about the guy.

See, shoujo_mallet has some lovely horror stories of the latter type from her travails on the 7 train. I was going to say I've never been witness to such a thing, but a few months ago there was a very drunk older Hispanic guy who was trying to take a piss on the doors even though his buddy was trying to convince him not to. Quite odd...

I love the distinction wouldn't have minded if he/she/they were attractive. Not as direct comment about you or that situation, but I know too many people that take that exception to heart and approve of, in my mind at least, inappropriate behavior just because someone's attractive.

But I may have more contact to this behavior because I go to Fashion School...yeah
